This past Friday, September 28th, your Clairemont Chieftains went to Morley Field to participate in the Coach Downey XC Classic. The course may have changed since this invitational first started. However, the results still show that Clairemont Cross Country is a force to be reckoned with.
Representing the Lady Chieftains, Sophomore- Gioia Ternasky turned in another stellar performance. Finishing 4th overall with a time of 19:42 over the course. Junior- Emma Fickett had arguably her best race of the season, covering the course in a new personal record of 23:16. She will look to continue this pace throughout the season. Newcomer Sophomore- Kalia Hosch enjoyed a breakout performance in her race as she improved her time to 27:21. She is making her case for a Varsity spot. The Lady Chieftains are gearing up for their first Conference race Thursday, October 4th.
The Boy’s team was once again led by the tenacious running of Junior-Matt Kinney. He was able to place 11th with a time of 17:24. Close behind was Sophomore- Andrew Blanquet, as he is quietly turning in a ‘Rookie of the Year’ season. He finished with a time of 18:17. While these two Chieftains were leading the Boy’s team Seniors- Charlie Jenkins and Saul Gallegos, along with Freshman- Max Marchal were closing fast. The team’s ability to finish close to one another was important for the Boy’s team to finish 4th overall among 27 High Schools that were present.
