On Friday, October 19th your Clairemont Cross Country team went up to Kit Carson Park in Escondido to take on a loaded field of D1 and D2 schools. Not only did they hold their own among the best in San Diego County they left feeling confident about their next League race against Kearny and Mission Bay High School.
The races started later in the day to take advantage of cooler temperatures. Even with cooler temperatures it was difficult to stop the hot start Sophomore- Gioia Ternasky has been having this season. The Sophomore lead the charge for the Lady Chieftains finishing 2nd overall with the 2nd fastest Girl time of the day. She covered the 2.75 mile course in a time of 17:52! Sophomore-Kalia Hosch and Junior-Madelene Reyes contributed to their first Varsity Invitational of the season. It was Freshman- Bella Hartmann though that demonstrated that the Lady Chieftains will be a force to be reckon with for years to come.
The Varsity Boys had to deal with injures and illness leading up to the race, regardless their spirits prevailed from the hilly course. Junior-Matthew Kinney once again lead the charge for the Varsity Boys. Placing 36th out of 192 individuals. Not too far off was the standout Sophomore- Andrew Blanquet coming in a time of 18:11. Senior-Saul Gallegos, the Captain of the team, finished in a new Personal Course Record of 19:04. It will be the last time he races on this infamous hilly course.
Thursday, October 25th, your Chieftains square off against Kearny High School and Mission Bay High School. Put on your running shoes and cheer on your distance runners at Morley Field. First race goes off at 3:00 PM!
