Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Ternasky to State!

This past Saturday, November 17, your Chieftains took on the Morley Field course to try and qualify for CIF State Meet in Fresno. They did not disappoint either.

The first to race were the Lady Chieftains. Lead once again by Sophomore- Gioia Ternasky she covered the course in 19:06 to finish 5th overall and qualified to the CIF State Meet! Freshman- Bella Hartmann saved some of her best “stuff” for the last race of the season. She ran a personal record of 23:06 over the CIF San Diego Section course. These efforts helped pace the Lady Chieftains to finish 9th overall as a team. The last time the Lady Chieftains were able to score as a team was back in 2015.

The Boys of Clairemont High were next. Lead one last time by Junior- Matt Kinney he was able to run a personal record of 17:14 placing him 29th. In his last race representing Clairemont for Cross Country Senior- Saul Gallegos ran a personal record of 18:39. The Chieftain of the hour was Sophomore- Sam Kaye as he stepped up for Clairemont. He ran a personal record of 18:21 over the CIF San Diego Section course. Clairemont placed 14th in the Division IV race. Many of these Chieftains will be back next year and will look to improve their team placement in Division IV.

For now though, all eyes are on Sophomore- Gioia Ternasky as she looks to outpace some of California’s best runners, on November 24th.
